About Dr Andrew Stapleton

Hello, I’m Dr. Andrew Stapleton!

You may be here because you have watched my youtube channel and want to know more about me and what I do!

I completed a PhD in chemistry in 2011 and spent one year in industry as an explosive chemist.
I returned to academia where I spent 10 years conducting research into renewable energy and solar cells. I secured my own funding, did research, lectured, and co-supervised students. I left academia in 2017 after becoming increasingly dismayed at the career prospects and expectations of the academic system.

I started an internship at COSMOS magazine to pursue an interest in science communication. I also started and run a science communication start-up verbalize.science which won over $100,000 in funding and grants.

These days I spend time sharing my experience of academia and helping others to make the right decision for their career on YouTube, sewing, drumming, knitting, reading, and learning new things! I couldn’t be happier!
